Pronatalism: Discourses and Counterdiscourses
Author and GNPS Member:
Sarah Benesch
Following the reading, copies of the book will be offered through a raffle.
Pronatalism: Discourses and Counterdiscourses is about how language positions
women as mothers and how some women challenge that positioning. To explore these
questions, she wrote about maternal instinct, biological clock, and having it all.
Other topics include 20th- and 21st-century women authors, such as Simone deBeauvoir and
Rebecca Solnit, who wrote about their decision not to procreate, and a personal narrative of the author's own childlessness.
Sarah Benesch is a longtime resident of Park Slope and a retired English professor. Pronatalism: Discourses and Counterdiscourses is her first hybrid book,
one that combines academic research, images, photos, and memoir.
