With Heal the Debt
Do you or someone you know have hospital bills that you can’t afford? Come learn about hospital financial assistance programs available at every hospital in the New York City area. You may qualify even with a relatively high income. Note that assets (your home, car, bank accounts) are not taken into account and you can be eligible regardless of insurance and immigration status.
Attorney Rose Gasner and Aviva Goldstein, public health professional, started an all-volunteer group called Heal the Debt, to help individuals learn about and take advantage of this poorly advertised program. About two-thirds of people who are eligible are unaware of the benefit. They will explain how these programs work and how you can apply. Rose and Aviva can also provide helpful tips on managing other medical bills.
Rose worked in city government, health care insurance, non-profits and as a consultant with Undue MedicalDebt. Aviva worked with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and helped found a program at Community Service Society of NY called Community Health Advocates.
