Staged Reading of a New Play: Angels on a Merry-Go-Round
A collaboration between GNPS Members, James and Josie Williams, and Rob Belchere with The Alzheimer's and Dementia Program at the Wesely House. The Play was written by Clyde Coreil, an 80 year old member of the Alzheimer's and Dementia Program, an amazing, amazing man. About the Play:
Vicki has been released from prison after serving hard time for a crime she did not commit. Tortured and brutalized by prison guards and frequent solitary confinement, Vicki keeps her sanity by writing music and smuggling the music out to her lover, Raine. They reunite at The Merry Go Round, a nightclub run by a recovering alcoholic ex-Reverend, Jason. Vicki and Raine must face their love/hatred relationship and Raine’s controlling and racist Grandmother and Joker, a drug user who framed Vicki after leaving her pregnant through raping her. The play deals with Divine Love vs. Human Love; Forgiveness and Redemption; Racism and Homophobia. The play mixes heaven and earth, the metaphysical and the real, God and Satan. Through it all are people, angels, fairies…..and a surprise or two.
