NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital has invited Good Neighbors of Park Slope and their guestsfor a seminar on Fall Prevention, given by environmental gerontologist, Jeff Rosenfeld, PhD. Dr. Rosenfeld specializes in home safety and helping seniors to age in place.

The presentation will touch on fall statistics and research findings, economical solutions for home safety, and how to avoid falls in city dwelling environments.

Jeffrey P. Rosenfeld, Ph.D.

Jeff Rosenfeld, Ph.D. is an environmental gerontologist who has built a career upon his research into older people, and the homes, or communities where they live. He is known for developing the term, “Senior Housing Globalized,” and he has pioneered research into ways that globalization is shaping and standardizing the design of home and community for older people in India, China, Japan, Brazil, and Sweden, as well as in the United States.

In recent years, Dr. Rosenfeld has focused on aging in place as the key to remaining happy, healthy and socially connected in later life. His work on fall prevention has helped to make aging in place a more realistic goal for Brooklyn’s seniors. He has served as the Fall Prevention Consultant to SUN-B (Senior Umbrella Network of Brooklyn. Dr. Rosenfeld has led Fall Prevention workshops in Senior Centers throughout Brooklyn, and has also been a consultant for the Parker Jewish Institute. He teaches “Design for Aging Populations” at Parson’s School of Design, and, he is especially pleased to be working with NYMH on an analysis of serious geriatric falls in the home.

Dr. Rosenfeld is currently consulting with NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital on their Fall Prevention Program. He has helped NYP-Brooklyn Methodist to develop inexpensive, yet effective tips – room by room – for increasing home safety


Puneet Dhaliwal DPT,MA
Physical Therapist specializing in balance and fall prevention
Puneet Dhaliwal received her Bachelor of Physical Therapy from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, India, one of the top tertiary care centers in India.


She achieved her Master’s in Motor Control and Learning from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York, and is currently pursuing her Post Professional T-DPT Program at Utica College, NY.

Dr. Dhaliwal gained experience working in the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (tertiary care, outpatient neurology, orthopedics, and pediatrics). She also worked in inpatient physical therapy including trauma ward, burns unit, neurology intensive care unit, neonatal surgical and medical intensive care unit for respiratory therapy.

She gathered further experience at the All India Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Mumbai, India including pain management, orthopedic outpatient, and amputation rehabilitation.

She worked on a research project on Parkinson’s Disease at Columbia University, NY, in 2012 and was a research volunteer at the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine New York, NY Motor Recovery Lab under Dr. Preeti Raghavan in September, 2010.

Her areas of specialization now include balance disorders, fall prevention Parkinson’s Disease, neurology, and pulmonary.
