Brooklyn Beginnings: An illustrated talk
by Bob Levine.
GNPS member Bob Levine owns an amazing collection of old postcards of Brooklyn.
He will share these with us in a talk on the early days of Brooklyn, as a community,
going back as far as the Revolutionary War and the creation of Prospect Park
Bob has been collecting “Brooklyn items” for the past 25 years, and his collection has grown to thousands of postcards, photos, and old newspaper articles. The largest portion of which is a collection of about 1500 postcards of Prospect Park. For the past several years he has volunteered in their archives, and with current archivist, Amy Peck, has digitized the “Bob Levine Collection”. The Prospect Park Alliance has used this collection to “fact check” excavated pieces on their worksites, such as the renovation of LakeSide, or the Ambergill falls.
Both Bob and his wife Kathy Sonderman are retired special education teachers. Bob has always been active in the community including chair of the Borough Presidents Committee on Disability Issues, for over 10 years and as a member of CB 6 for over 25 years, and as chair of their Landmarks Committee for much of that time.
This event is free and open to the public, but please register!
