July 11’s trip to the Sims Municipal Recycling Center was a not-to-be missed experienced. Thank you to Kara Napolitano for your patience and answering all our questions and the tour.

We learned when you recycle a bottle, if the cap is the same material (plastic bottle and plastic cap) you recycle with the cap on. If different material (glass bottle with metal cap) recycle with cap off.

Multi-layered items are not recyclable and go in trash (paper with foil liner, plastic coated Chinese food containers)

Greasy pizza boxes go in compost containers! So much we didn’t know!

“Best tour ever!” from member Paula Silver!

Check the Dept of Sanitation website to find out how to get rid of anything! https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/dsny/site/home
